SUMMARY:CSIA Level 1 - Ski Instructor Course
DESCRIPTION:CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor Course Outline\n\n\nCourse will run
 : 2 nights (Thursday &amp\; Friday) &amp\; 2 days (Saturday &amp\; Sunday)
 \nGeneral Goal\nTo introduce the candidates to ski teaching\, the CSIA and
  its function within the industry.\nFinal Goals\nAt the end of the course\
 , the candidate should be able to:\n\n 	Define goals and objectives of a s
 ki lesson.\n 	Plan the organizational needs of a lesson.\n 	Demonstrate an
  understanding of the three competencies of the CSIA.\n\nSpecific Goals\nK
 now how to:\n\n 	Demonstrate a good understanding of a safe environment fo
 r the level of skiing (eg. According to the regulations of the Alpine Resp
 onsibility Code).\n 	Demonstrate an understanding of the format used to st
 ructure a lesson.\n 	Demonstrate an understanding of the CSIA structure.\n
  	Demonstrate an understanding of the Christie progression (up to parallel
  turns) and the concept of "Fast Track to Parallel."\n\nAttitude:\n\n 	Dem
 onstrate a positive attitude towards ski teaching.\n 	Demonstrate respectf
 ul behavior towards the other candidates and the teaching staff.\n 	Demons
 trate the ability to communicate in a ski teaching context.\n 	Demonstrate
  a certain amount of self-confidence that will create success in ski teach
 ing.\n 	Demonstrate an open mind and be objective during the analysis of s
 kiing abilities.\n\nContent:\nDuring the course\, the following subjects w
 ill be discussed:\n\n 	Safety in ski teaching.\n 	Analysis and development
  of skier movements.\n 	Lesson planning.\n 	Christie progression and fast 
 track to parallel.\n 	Age specific workshop for children.\n 	Guest experie
 nce workshop.\n\nMethodology\nTechnical Sessions:\n\n 	Candidates will wor
 k on ski improvement\, analysis and development of ski movements and how t
 o adapt exercises and drill to specific age groups.\n\nTeaching Sessions\n
 \n 	Candidates will work on teaching particular movements and skills that 
 have been presented.\n\nIndoor workshops\n\n 	Workshops will take place be
 fore and/or after the on snow sessions. (see content).\n\nEvaluation\nTech
 nical Evaluations:\n\n 	Demonstrations executed by the candidate during cl
 ass time will be evaluated on a daily basis.\n 	Candidates must pass both\
 , skiing and teaching aspects in order to be certified Level 1\n 	Candidat
 es will be evaluated on their ongoing participation and effectiveness on a
 nd off the snow\n 	Specific demonstration assessments of progression tacti
 cs.\n\nCriteria\nParallel Turns\nDemonstrate good stance and balance\, con
 trol\, elements of rhythm\, symmetry and coordinated movements.\n\n 	Terra
 in: moderate (blue run).\n 	Speed: consistent and moderate.\n 	Ski positio
 n: parallel.\n 	Competencies: coordination of the three basic compentencie
 s.\n 	Radius: consistent and controlled.\n\nBeginner Wedge Turns\nShow the
  basics of good balance and good application of ski mechanics. Stance must
  show mobility and turning effort must come from the lower body.\n\n 	Terr
 ain: beginner (flat green run).\n 	Speed: slow.\n 	Ski position: wedge.\n 
 	Competencies: Basics of stance and use of lower body to steer while balan
 ced.\n 	Radius: Fall-line serpentine.\n\nTeaching Evaluation\nThe teaching
  is an evaluation of the student's participation in the workshops and sess
 ions.\nMarking System\nTechnical Evaluation Pass or Fail\nTeaching Evalua
 tion Pass or Fail.\n\nRetest on skiing or teaching:\nIf a candidate fails
  skiing\, teaching or both portions\, he/she can return for re-evaluation 
 and re-evaluation will be for 2 days.
